Tactile explorations

The exhibition features a tactile box of materials that can be touched – enabling viewers to engage further with the ideas and artworks.

The process of making artwork is very sensory in nature for the artists. Textures and the feel of the materials are an important part of the making process – be it to smooth surfaces, to raise them, to layer them, or to erase them.

The paint covered ephemera from the monotype print process is inherently beautiful in itself. Excess layers of paint, the weight of the rollers, the impastos, scrunched paper, to the used templates Brad created for the prints.

The pendants and rings are made to be worn against the skin – sanded and buffed, gently textured and polished. Consideration has been given to how they feel on, the smooth stones, facetted gems, pierced holes and the hand stamped words. Small hand drawn templates echo Brad’s shapes, used as concept plans to design the jewellery.
